Choose Summer to Visit the Bahamas

A lot of people only consider a Bahamas yacht charter in the winter and spring months. The reason for this is the dreaded hurricane season. While it is certainly true that the chance of a hurricane is higher during the summer months, the reality is also that it is actually the perfect time to go there.

In July and August, you can expect the temperatures to be quite mild, in the low 80s. Further, there are clam waters and there is a constant, lovely breeze. Not just that, however, but yachting itself can be much better as well. Because it isn’t so muggy, and because of the constant presence of the breeze, it is far more comfortable to use the yacht, whether you’re sunbathing or fishing. Plus, you can jump from your yacht straight into the water.

The Bahamas is a center of water activities, but there is plenty to do on land as well. Make sure that you do take the time out to see some of the natural and manmade beauty of the Bahamas. Not to be missed are the blue holes and vertical caves. Dean’s Blue Hole, for instance, quite close to Long Island, is the world’s deepest blue hole, reaching 663 feet in depth. A trip to the Fountain of Youth should also be on the calendar – who wants to get old, after all? And there are fantastic wildlife preserves to visit, as well as a lighthouse. Best of all, summertime is not the main tourism season, which means it isn’t as crowded there either.

Although many yachts travel to the Mediterranean during hurricane season, many do remain and can be chartered at any time during the year. There are small family boats, like a crewed catamaran charter or a private motor yacht, but also luxury mega yachts that you could charter with a larger group of people.

Yacht charters are perfect for many different reasons, from corporate affairs to honeymoons. When you charter one, you will be able to access the fantastic knowledge of the crew, including where to fish or where the best private beaches are, where to eat at night or where to snorkel. Do make sure you also enjoy the cuisine of the Bahamas, as well as some of the tropical drinks. Really, the only issue on your mind should be whether your tan is even!

When you charter a yacht, the service you receive will be fully personalized and customized. You cannot compare it to a cruise journey to the Bahamas, for instance. There is simply no way for you to find a private dining spot or unique experience when thousands of people are surrounding you at all times.

When you opt for a charter, by contrast, you can really get to know the archipelago at your own leisure and pace. The crystal blue waters will be yours for the taking, the corals and sea life will be yours to sea, and the white sandy beaches will be yours to enjoy.

How to Pack Your Football Gear When Travelling by Plane

Either you are going for a football game in another city or you want to take your football gear with you for the vacation, in order to prevent spending additional money on the rent, you need to follow some basic rules. So, where to start packing from? Following these basic hints will make your trip with your football equipment easy and enjoyable.

Find a sports bag that fits you the best

Today there is a great choice of sport equipment bags that you can find on the market, either in the sports stores or online shops. While choosing a bag, first of all, make sure that it is of a good quality, strong and durable. Most probably you don’t anticipate the handle of your bag to break down at the airport or in the middle of the street in an unfamiliar city, so don’t take the cheapest one – choose wisely.

Secondly, pay close attention to the storage space your that bag provides. It should not be extremely big, so to make you feel uncomfortable, but fit the demand of your football gear. Additionally, think of the shape and design. It might be a traditional duffel-style bag or a rolling football bag with two, three or four wheels. Keeping all your football gear in one bag instead of carrying them individually will make your travel much easier and more comfortable.

Pack it up!

But will it all fit? Imagine, you have to pack carefully your football visor, gloves, facemask, girdles, helmet, shoulder pads, knee pads, cleats, back plates and football rib protectors in one relatively small container! Some of the best clear visors for youth can be packed easily. Therefore, while packing try to take as less space as possible. Put your shoulder pads and knee pads together, as well as backplates and rib protection. Place your visor safely inside the helmet. You can also put your football uniform between the gear to ensure the pieces of equipment do not scratch or hit each other.

Traveling with your football gear by plane

Giving your football gear to the checked luggage might be a quite risky experience, as often the bags are being thrown and fragile things might easily get broken. More than that, they might get lost by the airline company and deliver to your place by the end of the game. Yet, before taking your bag with football gear on board check with your company about the following issues:

  • The size of your bag should not exceed the limit of carry-on luggage established by your air-company
  • Your carry-on should be light enough to take on board according to your company’s rules
  • Your football gear must not contain any items prohibited by your company to take on board
  • Footballs are normally permitted in carry-on luggage, but they have to be deflated and secured from rolling around the cabin.

Traveling is a fun thing, and it should not become less fun if you have to carry a bag with your sports equipment. Get prepared in advance and enjoy the trip!

4 Practical Reasons Why You Should Definitely Get Travel Insurance

If you look at your timeline or dashboard today, you will see that it is filled with photos and check-ins of people currently traveling. A lot of us would save up for a grand traveling experience, and for good reason: there is something unique about going out to the world and experiencing the things you have only ever read about. Yes, Australia is said to have some of the best surfer beaches, but how would you know for sure if you have not been there? Malaysia has a high concentration of diverse cultures, but when are you planning to experience it and see for yourself?

But imagine this scenario for a bit: you are on a week-long trip in New Zealand and you find yourself hiking up mountains with your friends. When suddenly, you grazed your right foot on one of the sharp rocks. You will need medical attention so they bring you to the nearest hospital. In emergency cases like this, what are the first things we think about? It is usually how serious the injury is, what should be done to treat it, and how am I supposed to pay for it.

Unpredictable situations such as the scenario presented above is exactly why people get themselves an annual travel insurance. It is one of the best ways to make sure your trip will remain worry-free. To convince you even more, here are important reasons why you should get travel insurance.

For medical emergencies, assistance, and evacuation

If, during the trip, you find yourself getting sick, injured, or needing serious medical treatments, here are the expenses that can be covered with insurance:

  1. Emergency treatments that you and your insurance provider have agreed on. Depending on what you have discussed, this can cover a certain amount that can be fully covered or discounted.
  2. Medical assistance which includes transporting you through ambulance, helicopter, sea rescue boat, and plane. This also covered expenses for sending you home with a medical practitioner on board.
  3. Medical evacuation, if the hospital you are currently in do not have the means to treat your condition.

In the event that something much dire will happen, like permanent disabilities or death, these will be given coverage as well.

Personal Liability

Sometimes, we do not injure ourselves during unforeseen incidents; we accidentally hurt someone else. If you have hurt other people or have broken their property, this can be covered by your travel insurance. But there are exceptions: vehicular accidents and animals that you will bring in the country will have to be discussed further with your provider. If this leads to legal troubles, your insurance can cover litigation expenses.

Missed, cancelled, or interrupted flights

In other times, the emergencies happen at our homes. If you need to cut your trip short, depending on the parameters you and your insurance provider discussed, you can get compensation for your trip. Additionally, if you missed a flight, you can get on the next scheduled flight without having to shell out additional expenses.

Personal belongings

Lost and damaged items can be given coverage. Discussions about your baggage and personal belongings with your insurance provider should include a list of items you deem extremely important and have them covered.

It is always important to be ready for all kinds of situations, especially for traveling. Review these points and make sure you get to have an extensive discussion with your chosen provider.

A Simpler and Better Way to Get Around in London

London’s complex geography and public transport network can be overwhelmingly confusing if you’re unfamiliar with them, and sometimes even if you are.

As a city with more than 1000 years of history (actually the first settlement in the area is believed to be over 6000 years old), London doesn’t have the tidy grid-like network of streets common to most other major cities around the world. The streets of London were designed for much simpler times, when traffic was light and powered mostly by hay and oats.

The transformation of London into a thoroughly modern metropolis has been nothing less than stunning. Compared to Paris, Rome, or even Stockholm, London has a much more modern appearance. No doubt the Great Fire of 1666 contributed to the city’s evolution. Bombings during World War One also knocked out many older buildings and factories. Then the Blitz arrived, forcing the city once and for all to rejuvenate.

And yet the metropolitan train network has hardly changed a bit since its inception, despite being in fact th oldest urban railway system in the world. There’s a sense of charm in London’s antiquity, and a sense of pride in its modernity, but none of this is very helpful to you in getting from A to B.

Minicabs and taxis should really only be used as a last resort. They are not locally known as “chuck wagons” without a good reason. Self-driving can also be a hassle. First there is the maze of inner-city streets to be navigated; you need to make sense of the complex system of motorways, arterial roads, and bypasses; and it’s probably best not to even think of the ordeal of finding a place to park (not to mention paying for it).

London’s public transport network is actually quite reasonable, despite being ancient. Yet by using it, you are taking a huge gamble in terms of reliability.  This could not have been more adequately exemplified than during the recent cab strike in South London, which overwhelmed the rail system, leaving thousands of early morning passengers destined for Gatwick Airport chomping at the bit with anxiety and frustration as the series of rolling delays threatened their travel plans.

So when you really need to be sure of getting to where you need to go, when you need to arrive calm and unflustered, and when you need to make the most efficient use of your travel time, making use of a London chauffeur service is definitely the way to go.

Hiring a bona fide chauffeur service guarantees you will have access to a reliable luxury car, a professional driver, and a state-of-the-art navigation system with traffic advisory service.  All of which ensures a safe and comfortable journey.

As a result, all the stress of driving, navigating, refueling and parking is being handled for you by someone else. Meaning you get to use your transit time for something productive like sneaking in an extra 20 minutes of sleep, catching up on your emails, finishing that overdue report, or simply relaxing with a drink and enjoying the scenery. This is why luxury chauffeur-driven travel is not just a smarter way, it’s really the only way if you care about the quality of the life you are living.

Inexpensive Communication Tips for Travel Abroad

When you’re traveling abroad, particularly if you’re gone for an extended period of time, one of your top concerns is probably how you can stay in contact with people back home. Unfortunately one of the downsides of traveling internationally is the fact that it can be expensive, or potentially even unsafe from a cybersecurity perspective to communicate in certain ways.

Some ways are cheap, easy and secure methods for communicating no matter where you might be in the world.

The following are some tips.

Consider an International Phone Plan

If you don’t travel that often and you’re only going to be gone for say a week or two, you might bring your own smartphone but talk to your phone company beforehand about getting an international plan with basic data and calling capabilities.

This is going to be less expensive than many other options, and you still get the benefit of having your contact information and your phone number so that you can get in touch with people at home, and they can do the same with you.

Email

Email is, of course, a great way to stay in touch while you travel, but you need to be aware of mail security issues that can arise. When you travel internationally and you email, particularly if you’re using public wi-fi, you’re putting yourself at risk for being the victim of a cyber-attack.

There are email security tools you can use to protect yourself while you’re away, and you can make sure you’re still connected to what’s happening back home, whether it’s personal or work-related.

Google Voice

Google Voice can be a great option for communicating while you’re overseas. With Google Voice, you can forward your calls so that while you’re away and people call you, you’ll be able to answer from your computer or device. It’s like having your phone with you wherever you go, but without the costs of a phone plan and the inconvenience of having to sign up for an international plan.

Portable Wi-Fi

Most of the best free and inexpensive ways to communicate while you abroad require internet access, but as mentioned above, using public wi-fi can leave you vulnerable to attacks.

One solution is to use something like a portable wi-fi device. This would let you use your smartphone and access the internet from anywhere, and you’ll have the benefits of security, portability, and you don’t have to worry about unreliable internet access.

This isn’t necessarily the cheapest option on this list, but it can be one of the best, particularly if you’re traveling with a group and you can all split the cost.

WhatsApp

Finally, a good way to send quick messages and stay in contact not only with people back home but maybe with people you’re traveling with is to use WhatsApp. WhatsApp will let you send messages fast and easily, regardless of the type of phone you’re using. If you needed to get in touch with your traveling companion and let them know, for example of a change of plans that evening, WhatsApp could be helpful.

Regardless of the international communication options you select, always keep security as a top consideration.

Sunshine Predicts Worst Year for Tourism Industry in a Quarter of a Century

Sunshine, a UK-based online travel agency, has predicted that, in the wake of political coup, terrorist attacks, and local referendum on transfers of power, Turkey will see its worse year for tourism in a quarter of a century this summer. This follows an already lower number of people interested in the country, before the attempted coup.

Normally, the end of July in any Turkish resort means overflowing bars, and beaches where you will struggle to find a seat. Crowds of foreign visitors visit to enjoy the food, beaches, and warmth. Unfortunately, due to the political turmoil that the country has been experiencing, the summer of 2016 was the worst in nearly a quarter of a century, and this year is set to be even worse.

According to UK-based online travel agency Sunshine, the political instability and terrorism attacks in Turkey have caused a switched towards destinations other than Turkey in an almost unprecedented way. Figures were released for 2016 before there was an attempted coup, and those showed that, compared to 2015, there was a 41% drop in the number of international arrivals. If this is indicative of an ongoing trend, which it is likely to be since the political situation in Turkey has only gotten worse, then this year is set to be the worst in 25 years.

In fact, it is expected that the height of the 2017 season will show just how bad it actually is. Preliminary figures state that there has been a 6% drop in tourism per month since July 2016. A representative from Sunshine says: “In July 2017, there was an expected 47% drop in the number of visitors, and a 53% drop in August. While this is already incredibly bad – a 50% on average drop in tourism translates into millions of dollars after all – the reality is that the figures, when (and if) they are released, will be even worse. After all, these were the figures we expected before there was an attempted coup on the 14th and 15th of July 2016, and the subsequent political crackdown.”

On July 21, 2016, Turkey declared a state of emergency, which lasted for three months. This means it coincided exactly with the end of the tourist season as well. Sunshine has joined forces with a number of other UK-based travel agencies to determine what the impact actually is. This revealed:

  • A 40% drop on average in capacity to the country from travel agencies.
  • A drop in revenue of £100 million between April and June 2016 alone.

The reason why Turkey’s tourism industry was suffering even before the attempted coup, was due to the terrorist attacks experienced during the early parts of 2016. What accepted figures for this period of time showed was that:

  • There was a drop of just over a third during June 2015 for British visitors to Turkey.
  • 12,000 UK tourists arrived in Turkey per day in 2015.
  • 8,000 UK tourists arrived in Turkey per day in the first half of 2016.

Indeed, even now the UK Foreign Office has warned that there continues to be a “potentially volatile” situation in Turkey. All visitors are asked to carry a copy of their e-visa and their passport with them at all times.

The Sunshine representative adds: “We continue to hope that there will be a greater demand for Turkey by British visitors as a result of the slump in Sterling. What this means is that the cost of Turkey is well below the cost of Spain. This could be the country’s saving grace, but it doesn’t look hopeful just yet.”

Why You Need to Get Travel Money Cards

Traveling overseas requires most of your time, energy, effort, and money. You have to be prepared for it, especially financially because you will be spending a lot. So, it is best to save up for your most-awaited holiday getaway with your loved ones and make the most out of it.

One of the numerous ways to access cash when you are traveling abroad is by using a travel money card. This is a simple and safe way to store your spending money once you are on a trip internationally. More so, it prevents any unwanted credit charges for your overseas purchases. Thus, get the best travel money cards before flying abroad for your vacation.

Listed below are some reasons why you need to avail a travel money card any time soon:

Travel money card loads various foreign currencies.

Once you have a travel money card, you can load up multiple foreign currencies and use it overseas. You will be able to withdraw cash over the phone, at an ATM, or in store. With this, there is nothing to worry about having to exchange foreign currencies anymore, for you can already juggle currencies when you are still in your home country. Simply check online first if the currency you will be loading to your card is allowed, so as to avoid any unnecessary circumstances to happen.

Travel money card locks in your exchange rate prior to your travel.

One of the advantages of having a travel money card is it locks in the exchange rate for your trip. You can easily budget your holiday cash, for you are certain enough that the rate won’t change anymore. Additionally, it would be a great idea to lock in a currency ahead of time before your trip, for you to be able to allot money on specific things. This could also mean missing out on any improvements in the exchange rate, however, it is still good for you because you won’t get affected when the rate goes down.

Travel money card functions as a debit card without linking to your account.

Another vital security benefit of having a travel money card is it can function as a debit card. You won’t need to link it your bank account, for it is a stand-alone card. By having it, you are able to minimize the risk of losing money due to theft or fraud. Furthermore, a travel money card includes a PIN code access, the chip, and you can block the card once it’s stolen.

On the whole, it is essential to get a travel money card when you are tripping overseas. Definitely, there is nothing to worry about carrying a lot of cash anymore, for you can simply bring your travel money card with you. These reasons mentioned above will help you decide why you need it. Hence, make it a point to consider having one in order to experience a hassle-free and enjoyable out-of-the-country vacation with your family or friends. Your trip will surely be one for the books!

Tips for road tripping across America

There are so many people opting for the opportunity to fly places these days instead of taking their car, you’d probably be forgiven for thinking that the classic American road trip is a bygone concept. However, that’s not actually true. While it does seem like road trips are less common today when it comes to cross-country exploration, statistics suggest that people are constantly taking to the roads when it comes to planning for things like last-minute vacations and family visits.

Since airline travel and customer service isn’t as great as it used to be these days, it makes sense that more people are beginning to consider the different ways they can explore the beauty of America, as huge and wonderful as it is. With that in mind, we’re going to look at some simple tips for road tripping across America.

  1. Clean your Car

First things first, it may not seem like a big deal to clean out your car before a road-trip. However, if you don’t end up feeling sick of all the wrappers and empty cola-cans on the floor of your car a day or so into your trip, you can be sure your friends and family will end up tearing you apart for it. Eventually, depending on how long your trip lasts, the smell of old food and drinks will start to get to you, and you’ll wish you had taken the time to run a quick vacuum around your car before you started out.

  1. Have a basic plan

To be successful in your road trip, you don’t have to necessarily plan every aspect of your experience, but you should have a basic plan in place. Delays happen, and the chances are you’ll need to make adaptations to your plan somewhere along the way. However, you can have a general idea of what you should be doing, just so you don’t end up going completely off track. If you end up over-scheduling yourself, then you’re just going to end up being frustrated.

  1. Make sure your vehicle is ready to go

About a week before you set out for your big adventure, you should have your mechanic look over the basics of your vehicle, including fluid levels, brakes, tires, and anything else that you can count on to cause some kind of problem. Make sure you fully inflate your spare tire, and take something along with you that’s going to help if you have a breakdown, such as a tire inflator. When it comes to the great road trip, it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

  1. Stay off the Highways

Unless you have a strict schedule and a specific destination in mind, then you’re going to need to spend some time on the back roads if you really want to get the most out of your American adventure. Most US road maps will be able to give you an insight into where the best back roads are, and you’ll find that some maps even include various dots and notes that will help you find the most scenic routes too. Alternatively, you could always do some searching online to see whether you can find any extra places to check out along the road to your chosen destination.

  1. Be prepped with entertainment

Finally, if you’re going to be sharing your driving experience with other people, which is probably a good idea if you’re planning a long trip, you need entertainment. During those times when you need to sit back and relax when someone takes over the wheel, or if you want to listen to some music along the drive, you’re going to need to have a phone or entertainment device handy that’s ready to offer you all of the amusement you could possibly need. Remember that you can get portable chargers that plug into a port in your car to ensure that you stay charged along the way.

The Great American Road Trip

The great American road trip can be an incredible experience if you know how to do it right. The best thing that you can do is simply make sure that you’re fully prepared for the adventure that lies ahead. Following the tips that we outlined above, you should be equipped with all the spare tools and extra entertainment you need to make your time on the US roads as incredible as possible.

World’s Best Festivals One Shouldn’t Miss

Part of the fun of travel is the chance to participate in another way of life. There’s no better means of doing this than to get involved with one of the many colorful festivals taking place each year around the globe. Whichever continent you’re heading to, there’s sure to be something fantastic. Here, we look at five of the best.

Rio de Janeiro Carnival, Brazil
This needs no introduction. Attracting more than two million party-goers daily onto the streets of Rio de Janeiro, it runs for six days at the beginning of Lent. Rio’s samba schools are the driving force, and their colorful floats and dancers pack the streets for the main parade. However, the carnival also includes plenty of other festivities, in which anyone can join in and show off their samba moves.

Maralal Camel Derby, Kenya
If you find yourself in Kenya in August, you might want to head north to the small desert town of Maralal for its camel derby. Attracting participants and spectators from all over the world, competition is intense, although some riders show better control over their camels than others.

MassKara Festival, Philippines
The Philippines is not yet a regular stop on the backpacker trail but you’ll be missing out if you don’t go. So much the better if you can time your visit around the MassKara festival. Held in Bacolod City and named for the smiling masks worn by participants, it includes a street dance competition, a beauty pageant and music. Characterized by the friendliness of its participants, it’s a popular festival so accommodation requires planning ahead. Luckily, real estate in the Philippines is booming, and you can easily find the best condos on Zipmatch, whether you want to rent or to buy.

The Venice Carnival, Italy
Dating back to the fourteenth century, Venice’s annual carnival is Europe’s oldest. Beginning after Christmas and running until the day before Lent, it attracts more than three million visitors annually. Many are tempted by the bright masks worn by carnival-goers, some of whom may be hoping to carry away the prize awarded to the most beautiful mask. Originally introduced to blur the distinction between the nobility in their fine clothes and ordinary people who could never hope to afford garments of the same quality, the masks remain popular today among Venetians and tourists alike.

Holi, India
Marking the victory of good over evil, this Hindu festival of colors is celebrated in the north of India during the full moon in March. Unwary travelers venturing onto the streets can expect to return to their hostel or hotel with their clothes covered in brightly colored powder, or soaking wet from water balloons. However, this is still one of the best and most exuberant festivals in the world. People of all ages flock into the streets to perform religious rituals in front of huge bonfires, exchange greetings, dance and, yes, throw handfuls of colored powder around.
