What Should You Look for in a High-Quality Hotel?

Source: Unsplash | Christian Lambert

As you make your travels from place to place, no matter if it is for business, pleasure, or leisure, there are going to be a lot of things that you pay attention to when you plan your stay. When you are planning on staying at a hotel for more than just a place to sleep, you will want to make sure that you are getting the most out of your stay in Abu Dhabi; thankfully, there are ways to make sure of that.

For instance, you might want to begin thinking about what is most important to you for your hotel stay. Do you want to have a large room with more than enough space for you to stay comfortably? Or do you want to spend your time in a hotel that offers food, drink, and even leisure activities for you so that the hotel is truly the destination of your stay? These are all very important things that you will want to think about when you are looking at the many hotels that dot the city of Abu Dhabi.

Thinking About What You Want From Your Room

Of course, the room is going to be a very important part of your stay in a 5-star hotel in Abu Dhabi. After all, you’re going to be sleeping there. This means that when you begin looking at which rooms are available, you will want to think about a few things. First, you will want to think about how much space you will need. Some rooms are going to be smaller than others with an area of 42 square meters as compared to the larger rooms that might be closer to 60 square meters. Being comfortable in your room is important as nobody enjoys being cramped in his or her room.

You will also need to think about other amenities as well. Some people place a lot of importance on things such as pillow menus, which allow you to choose exactly which pillows you want in your room. Other people will want to focus more on the view and the floor-to-ceiling windows that come in certain rooms. Whether you want the daily and international newspapers or magazines to keep up with events or you want to make the most out of the minibar in your room, you will want to think about what room amenities will be important for your stay in Abu Dhabi.

Thinking About What You Want From the Hotel

Just as the hotel room itself is very important, the overall features of the hotel are also important to consider. Some people might want to spend the entire day in the hotel, taking advantage of the restaurants that are located within. Other people will want to spend their time in a spa, relaxing the day away and coming back to the hotel room feeling more alive than ever. No matter what your focus is during your stay, you will ultimately want to make sure that your stay is a comfortable one when you are spending the money on a 5-star hotel.

When it comes to dining, you will want to think about what kinds of food are offered and if they fit your tastes. Some people do not enjoy steakhouses or eating meat in general, which would be a problem if a hotel’s only restaurant was a steakhouse. However, high-quality hotels are going to have more than one option for you and you will be able to choose from sophisticated cuisines and bars that have whatever you could want to drink.

Top Things to see and do in Thailand

Renowned for its gracious royal palaces, tropical beaches, and baroque temples magnified with images of Buddha and ancient ruins, located in the Southeast of Asia, Thailand is indeed a beautiful country. The country hosted over 22 million visitors and holiday makers in 2018 alone which connotes that Thailand is a destination for everyone seeking fun, recreation and educational trips.  Below is a quick guide on top activities for everyone planning their next trip to this paradise.

4. Have a Cocktail at the Sky Bar

Call it the 8th wonder of the world and you wouldn’t be wrong. It stands high over all the swanky rooftop bars in Thailand and acclaimed to be the world’s highest open-air bar. Top Tips For Planning A Safe Road Trip

Source: Dariusz Sankowski on Pixabay

Summer is always a time of exciting getaways and holidays – whether abroad or just in your own backyard. Easily one of the most popular summer holiday ideas is to go on a road trip – and what better way than with all your favourite people to your favourite places. Road trips are a great option for those who are trying to remain budget friendly – if you camp along the way rather than staying in hotels, it can vastly reduce the cost of the trip. But how else should you prepare for a road trip? Did you know that distracted driving can reduce your response time? Check out a fun game about that very thing here. You can also check out some information about how GPS use on phones has actually increased phone use while driving. Scary right? Don’t run afoul of these problems while on the road. Here are some of our top tips for preparation and staying safe

GPS/SAT NAV

It goes without saying that one of the ways you will probably be getting around includes the use of a Sat Nav or GPS. These days though, the traditional Sat Nav has become less and less popular as GPS is available through almost any phone. Sat Navs and GPS use is common when it comes to driving, and it’s increased cell phone use while driving, resulting in more dangerous potential distraction while on the road. One of the best ways to still use GPS but not be distracted? Use a holder of some kind attached to the dashboard. This should help keep your eyes on the road and your hands off the phone, avoiding distracted driving.

Car Prep

Car prep is another important aspect when it comes to making sure you stay safe while having fun. Car prep can involve getting the brakes checked, the tyres balanced or getting an oil change. After all, you don’t want to be stuck somewhere with a bad tyre in the middle of nowhere, right? Always better to be safe than sorry.

Packing

Packing up the car will depend entirely on where you go. Are you heading to the mountains? You will want to be sure to take some warmer clothes as even in the summer it can be cool in the hills. Likewise, if you’re looking for someone to go hiking with, take this into consideration when you plan your packing gear – you will want boots, sticks and maybe a day pack of some kind to carry snacks and water. Planning to camp along the way? Don’t forget that tent and sleeping gear – you will sure miss it if you forget it, and you will have to shell out for potentially expensive hotel rooms instead!

The Route – With Alternatives

Finally, one of our top tips is to plan out your route in advance, with some alternatives in mind in case a road is blocked or closed or you simply find you can’t get to a specific place. It’s always a downer if you get to a turn off and find you can’t go further, so be sure to look in advance. Oftentimes, Google Maps actually have road closures announced, so this could be a good tool to use to plan your route.

So there you have some of the top suggestions for staying safe while planning and embarking on a road trip. Road trips are time honoured traditions with family and friends and allow for a whole lot of autonomy when it comes to getting around, picking your sights and the like. Enjoy!

The 3 Foods You Must Try When You Visit Canada

The Great White North doesn’t command too much attention in the global culinary dialogue. It does not have the same immediately recognizable national dishes as other, older countries, nor does it have a reputation for fine dining. Ask tourists to Canada why they’ve chosen it, and “for the food” is probably way down the list, below “natural beauty” and “friendly people”.

Nevertheless, Canada has a few foods that you absolutely have to try if you travel there. In this article, let’s explore three dishes that, by and large, you can’t get outside the country, and that will blow you away. Get your maple-leaf-emblazoned bib out and crack yourself a cool Molson beer, because you are going to want to try these.

Get Messy With a Poutine

While it has gained popularity stateside in the last few years, poutine remains best enjoyed in Canada. Whereas American versions tend to cut corners with grated cheese and commercially made gravy, the Canadian version – especially those you find in the province of Quebec – use fresh cheese curds and from-scratch gravy. It’s a messy, opulent dish but you absolutely have to give it a go if you’re in Canada.

Where to go: Montreal is your best bet for an amazing poutine. Try the Montreal institution La Banquise, or its hipper younger brother, La Belle Patate.

Relax With an “Edible”

If you haven’t heard the news, well then congratulations for successfully surviving under that rock. But of course you have heard: as of last year, cannabis is legal across Canada. And since then, because of the broad legalization, there has been some wonderful experimentation with cannabis in food, baked goods especially. You can get gourmet edibles that taste great and let you relax a little.

Where to go: Not a physical location per se (not yet, at least), but you should definitely check out Olli Brands cannabis infused edibles online – they are crafted by real chefs with a focus on flavour and experience.

Up Your Brunch Game With a Caesar

This cocktail is a hard sell for some travellers, especially when they hear that the main ingredient, Clamato juice, is made from – you guessed it – tomatoes and clams. But push all that out of your head. Come to brunch with an open mind, order a Caesar, and what you will receive is like a Bloody Mary on steroids. It gets a deep umami flavour from the Clamato, a spicy kick from the hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce and a lip-licking finish from the celery salt rim, all enhancing the natural booziness of the vodka.

Where to go: You can find this cocktail on the menu of just about any restaurant that serves alcohol. But, recently, some restaurants have started to garnish their Caesars with chicken wings, onion rings and even sliders. This article from the Food Network lists the craziest Caesars you can find across the country.

No, Canada might not command the same culinary clout as Italy or Thailand. But its riches, when discovered, are really remarkable. Hopefully you’ll give one of these uniquely Canuck foods a try.

Source: Jody Parks on Pixabay

Are you an avid fan of snorkelling or diving and trying to find the next best place to go for your upcoming holidays? There are literally so many places across the world that provide excellent snorkelling and diving as well as opportunities for boat trips that can take you out to fantastic reefs, just teeming with life. While diving requires training and expertise in order to perform, you can go on try dives and introduction courses even if you have no intention of doing it long term which helps you get a feel for the underwater world away from snorkelling. If you don’t want to have to put all that equipment on every time you go to enjoy the sea though, snorkelling is just as good – sometimes better. Here is a list of some of the world’s best snorkelling and diving countries.

Egypt

It’s no secret that some of the best ocean life is found in Egypt’s Red Sea. Whether you’re a diver or a snorkeller, it’s likely that you will be shocked at the amount of fish as well as their colour when you visit some of Egypt’s dive sites and reefs. The corals as well are typically in good condition and provide a colourful backdrop, especially in the springtime when they bloom and provide a whole myriad of colours and shades. Boat trips to various reefs in the Red Sea are popular and sought after from mainly Sharm El-Sheikh or Dahab. Book a cheap flight to Sharm El-Sheikh to get your dive on.

Indonesia

With thousands of islands and pristine reef throughout, Indonesia is easily one of the most amazing countries in the world for both diving and snorkeling. Whether you’re staying on Bali, the Gili Islands or you’re going further afield to the likes of Raja Ampat, the Banda or Cai Islands, one thing is for certain, and that’s the fact that when it comes to sea life, Indonesia has it going on. Raja Ampat is one of the most beautiful and pristine marine reserves in the world and has limits on building in the marine park as well as limits on what can and cannot be done as well as the number of tourists that go through there in order to keep its ranking as one of the best in the world. That being said though, the rest of Indonesia also has pristine reefs, so finding something truly spectacular isn’t too difficult.

Australia

Home to the world’s most famous reef, the Great Barrier Reef, Australia has some seriously impressive reefs and coastline where you can catch a whole variety of earth’s marine life. Comprised of almost 3000 individual reefs, the Great Barrier Reef is a truly unique and beautiful reef system. Considering the state of the reefs across the world and how important the Great Barrier Reef is to the overall health and wellness of the overall marine system worldwide, strict rules are enforced when it comes to the Great Barrier Reef. While some of it is experiencing coral bleaching due to climate change, any tour operator worth their weight will know where you should and shouldn’t go in order to minimise further reef damage.

Thailand

One of the most popular island destinations in the world, Thailand is home to several gorgeous islands that have great reefs just waiting to be explored. While some films such as The Beach made certain coves, bays and beaches insanely popular, the Thai government has recognised this and have taken steps to minimise further reef damage by closing beaches. That being said though, you can still visit various reefs around the islands – the main ones being Koh Phanang, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Tao and Koh Lanta. Come see for yourself the Thai reefs and waters that have many different things to offer. Boat trips to island hop are a popular way to see more than one island chain and its offerings in an afternoon, often an excellent way to see as much marine life as possible due to the fact some islands have better reefs than others.

So if you’re looking for the best reefs to check out in the world, hopefully this short list will help you make some great plans in regard to going to visit various reefs, teeming with life. With so many great reefs to choose from, the only question you will have is “where to first?”.

Look Online For Big Savings on Your Orlando Trip

A family trip to Orlando isn’t cheap and whilst every penny spent will be worthwhile, it makes sense to try and find as many ways to save as possible. My family and I have taken this trip about 5 times in the last decade and each time we go we manage to find more cost effective ways to make this trip. If you want the best and biggest savings then you need to fire up your laptop and get searching, and here are just some of the places where you can save big.

Theme Parks

Beyond your flight prices and accommodation the biggest outlay you’ll be likely to make is on the entrance to the theme parks themselves. You can however find huge savings on a variety of discount websites, as long as you know which parks you want to go to and on which days you want to visit. Our favorite park here in Orlando is Universal Studios and you can find Universal Orlando tickets online with huge discounts. Sometimes you’ll find these on 3rd party sites, other times you’ll find heavy discounts on offer on a variety of coupon sites. The key is to get hold of these tickets as soon as they are released because they are almost always limited, if you don’t want to miss out then check in daily to ensure that you are first in line.

Car Hire

Renting a car during your time here makes so much sense, it gives you the freedom to go where you want and when, and it also makes access to the attractions far more flexible for you and your family. As you can imagine competition is high when it comes to getting the car you want and this is why it makes sense to book up early. Furthermore you can count on some great discounts and offers if you get in early, particularly from coupon websites. As soon as you have booked the trip, hit the coupon websites each day and keep an eye out for some of the big discounts you can find for companies such as Avis, Herz and Budget, to name just a few. Not only can you secure a great price but you can also ensure that they have availability for the make and model of your choice.

Restaurants

During peak season there is fierce competition between restaurants to get tourists through the door and beyond their daily menu promotions they will also offer sizable discounts online. More often than not you’ll find these discounts and offers directly on the restaurant’s website. Bear in mind that restaurants put these deals on for future dates so you will need to know where you’ll be on each day. Once you know where and when you want to eat simply grab a deal, get your booking in early and count on some heavily discounted meals and some of the city’s best restaurants.

Orlando may be pricey but you can find ways to bring those costs down.

Tatiana Kukanova, The Perfect Traveling Companion

There is a great difference between having a friend who you get along well with and having a great traveling companion and the truth is that not every friend makes for the best travel buddy. My friend Tatiana Kukanova is my best travel buddy and whilst she isn’t actually my closest or oldest friend, when traveling together we just mesh so well. Traveling can be tough, enjoyable, exciting and sad, it is a pastime which really tackles every emotion in your body and that is why you need to make sure that you have someone like Tatiana Kukanova on your side. Here is why Tatiana Kukanova is the perfect travel buddy, perhaps these are some qualities you can look for when choosing who you will travel with.

Stress Free

Some of my friends get so stressed out about traveling that it actually has a negative impact on my feelings and my mood. They worry about booking transport, getting there on time, losing things, being in danger and just about everything else that you can think of. Tatiana however is not like this at all, she is perfectly calm in all situations, she is pragmatic and logistical in her approach and together we are always super organized and very relaxed. Traveling can be stressful but you don’t need that stress to come from the person who you are traveling with.

Independent

Whilst you may be traveling with someone this doesn’t mean that you don’t require them to be independent from time to time. I have had friends who have stuck to me like glue during our trips, because they are unable to entertain themselves or go out and speak to strangers. With Tatiana we have a great understanding, we are both independent and do our own thing, yet we also love being together and respecting each other’s space. Independence is such an important characteristic in a travel companion.

Reading the Signs

Something else which is vitally important when traveling with someone is that they are able to read your moods. There are days on the road when I just don’t feel like talking to anyone and you need a travel companion who will be able to see this and not take offense from it, just respect the way you feel. There are days when I am on cloud 9 for example and I can see that Tatiana is not really up for it, on those days I’ll curtail my emotions in front of her and head out on my own for a bit to give her some space. It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows when you go traveling and you need a travel companion who will be able to recognize this.

The best thing that Tatiana brings to our travels is her empathy and her love for life, we almost never fight when we are traveling and we very rarely are at crossed paths. Make sure that you don’t just chose your best friend, but the best person to travel with.

Richard Radcliff Trice – 5 awesome Things to do in Alabama

Alabama was somewhere which I had never really considered visiting before and so it was quite exciting for me when my colleague Richard Radcliff Trice invited me down to his home state for a week of fun. I didn’t really know what to expect from this trip to be honest, other than Richard I had never really spoken to anyone who had been to Alabama before, at least not for a vacation. And so I accepted with gusto and I am glad to say that I had the most wonderful week down there. If you haven’t been before here are 5 things which you are sure to love in the Heart of Dixie.

 US Space and Rocket Center

The Smithsonian partnership museum is based here in Huntsville and it has one of the largest collections of rockets and space memorabilia in the world. This is one of the top Alabama attractions and we visited here in the first day of my time there. I have always enjoyed looking at artifacts from the space race and this place is chock full of them. The collection is awesome and so is the incredible IMAX theater which showcases space related footage.

Fort Morgan Museum

This part of the USA has seen its fair share of conflicts and this fort which was built in 1819 has also seen more violence and battle than most would care to imagine. This fort was the largest military base in the state for over 20 years and after it was abandoned in 1944, it has since been truanted into an incredible museum, like a place which has been frozen in time.

Birmingham Civil Rights Institute

The educational and cultural research center is designed to promote a far greater understanding of the civil rights developments in the state and it is a fascinating display which exhibits the struggle which many have had to protect their human rights. This is a sobering exhibit which is worth seeing during your time in Alabama, for no other reason than to understand more about how this state came to be what it is today.

Huntsville Botanical Garden

Two words which I very much fear in the English language are botanical and garden, more-so when they are placed together. This one in Alabama however changed my mind completely, a rich and spacious place with aquatic gardens, wildflowers, nature trails and many specialist gardens, I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Huntsville and it was the perfect afternoon activity.

Alligator Alley

Alligators fascinate and scare me in equal measure so I was over the moon to go and visit Alligator Alley here in Alabama. It is a farm which is designed to be a natural environment for the alligators, and a visitor center in one. Here there are more than alligators to see and you can find an amazing nature walk which will show off turtles, ospreys, frogs, owls and all manner of other beautiful beasts.

If you are in Alabama, these are the places I’d recommend that you check out.
